How a job goes
Every job at 2 and 1/2 Mechanics follows the same steps, from a tire swap to a fault three other garages missed.
You start by booking. The booking page is open 24/7. Pick the service, or Other if it isn’t listed, choose a day, and add your car by scanning the VIN with your phone or typing in the year, make and model.
Then you describe it. Tell us in plain words what you notice and when it happens, and attach up to four photos if they help.
Next, you drop the car off by 9am on the day you booked, at 1345 Marchand St in Cyrville, Ottawa. The shop opens at 8am Monday to Saturday. Cyrville O-Train station is about a four minute walk away if you need to get to work, and the St. Laurent Centre is about a kilometre west.
We look at the car and call you. The call covers what is wrong, what it costs to fix, and anything that can safely wait. If there is more than one grade of part, you hear the options.
Nothing happens until you approve it. If we find something else once the job is underway, you get another call before we touch it.
Then you pick the car up, weekdays until 5pm or Saturday until 3pm. The parts we replaced are kept for you to see, and Salim or whoever did the work will explain what they found.
Posted prices
These are prices before tax, as listed on the booking page. A full synthetic oil change is from $99. A brake change is from $180, depending on the vehicle. A seasonal tire swap with the tires already on their own rims is $75, and a tire change off the rims, mounted and balanced onto your wheels, is $140.
Everything else starts with an inspection or diagnosis, billed at $120 an hour. That covers warning lights, noises, leaks, electrical faults and anything that has to be found before it can be fixed. Parts are quoted once we know exactly what the car needs, so the number you approve is the number for your car.
